Drawing

Been seriously busy the past few days, got to rush to complete the assignment 1 for ComDI and finally... it's done. The presentation was today and I am rather confident that I'll be getting a decent grade. I've got a narrative written for the ComDI assignment 1, I don't have anything much to post so I'll put it here. (It's rather long and I'm not forcing anyone to read it).

The moment I stepped into the yard I could sense that something was wrong; there was the presence of a human being. An intruder! I immediately abandoned my backpack and dived into the hedge. I needed to devise a plan to get hold of the intruder without being spotted. With only camera for protection, my options were limited. I zoomed in using my camera and got a clearer image of the intruder. A female intruder, alright! I can at least handle a girl on my own, no problem! I sneaked into the apartment and waited outside the room for my chance to strike. The wooden door slowly creaked open and there was a faint scent of mint. Now’s my chance!

“I got you now!”

I leapt from my hiding spot and managed to pin the female intruder onto the ground but it was all abnormally easy. The female trespasser stayed motionless on the ground. Don’t tell me I killed her?

“Hey Julia, are you alright?” I asked, shaking the motionless body on the ground.

“Of course I’m not; I just got pounced on by a pervert.”

I helped Julia to her feet.

“Sorry, I didn’t expect you to be weaker than last time.”

“I just got off the plane a few hours ago; can’t you give me a break?” Julia explained looking rather pissed.

Julia spent the rest of the day in her room, probably unpacking her luggage or maybe she fell asleep halfway. Anyway, I will never know.

The next day, I passed by the abandoned train station and spotted someone sitting on the bench in the station. How unusual, it was rare for someone to be ‘visiting’, nobody ever comes to this place; me being the exception.

I strolled towards the bench and there was the fragrance of mint amongst the smell of grass. Sitting on the bench was a girl, a pretty one at that. The girl appeared to be sleeping, her face looked really innocent. My hands then started to itch, it’s telling me to grab the camera. Yes, I must capture this with my camera. I reached for my camera in my backpack.

“Snap!”

The girl woke up.

“Hello girl,” I said sarcastically.

“I was waiting for you Kam,” The girl seemed to recognise me, “I knew that you still come by this place everyday so I thought I’d wait for you.”

“You remember me?”

The girl stared at me and gave a long sigh. “Your jokes are as ‘funny’ as usual; you don’t crack me up one bit.”

“Sorry Julia.” I then took a seat beside her. “So, what’s up?”

“I just wanted to talk, it’s been three years after all,” Julia paused for awhile, “and I need to talk to you about my condition.”

“I’ve heard it many times before, you have that amnesia something.”

“Yes, but lately my condition has worsened and my body’s getting weaker. That’s why my parents wanted me to move in with you and auntie.”

I turned and look at Julia; she was staring into the azure sky, she seemed to be lost in thought.

“It’s a real pain in the ass isn’t it, your anterograde amnesia.”

“Oh, so you do remember what it’s called.” Julia smiled. “My condition allows me to skip school, you should be happy for me.”

I just kept silent. Even I know that if her condition worsens, there are chances that she would lose all her memories after the accident, including her time spent with me.

“Don’t worry; you’ll be the last person I forget.”

Julia seemed to read my mind; she probably still remembers our time spent together.

“That’s assuring.”

Julia’s birthday was just a few weeks away and I knew that I had to do something for her. I started to look for part-time jobs to save up for Julia’s gift. For the past few weeks I worked as if my life depended on it. I needed to juggle my school work with my part-time job and by the time I had enough for her gift, I was already half dead.

July 16, it was Julia’s birthday that day but I ended up with a cold, probably due to overexerting myself at work. Unfortunate Julia ended up taking care of me on her birthday; since mum was rarely home due to work.

“Sorry for troubling you.”

“No kidding, it’s my birthday! It’s fine if you do not have a birthday present for me but fancy you catching a cold and I have to take care of you. Seriously…”

I was planning to get Julia’s present later that day but now that I’ve fallen ill, I was stuck at home.

“I’ll make it up to you.”

“For now, just focus on getting better.”

I was feeling a lot better the next day and went out to shop for Julia’s gifts. I then asked her to meet me at the train station later in the afternoon.

“You’re late!” Julia’s face puffed up.

“Sorry.”

I finally managed to catch my breath and it was time to put my plan into action.

“Julia you keep a diary right?”

“Yes, the doctor recommended it.” She then pulled out a pink notebook from her pocket.

“Can I take a look at the contents?”

Julia’s face turned a bright red, “What’re you saying, of course not!”

“I thought so,” I paused, thinking of what to say next, “It’s not a pictorial diary right?
Julia shook her head, “No, I do not have a camera and I suck at drawing.”

“Then I have just the gift for you,” I reached into my gigantic shopping bag and handed her a small parcel, “Happy belated birthday to you.”

“Huh? A digital camera?” Julia looked rather confused.

“Yeah, it took quite awhile for me to select the right model. I thought you might need this, it’ll help you ‘remember’ things better,” I then lifted the larger gift onto the bench, it weighed a ton. “This printer is my second gift to you; you’d need a printer to print out the pictures so I thought that I’d get you one as well.”

Julia looked rather troubled, “You’re so stupid, who gives a camera and a printer for birthday presents?”

“Oh I didn’t think about that, sorry.” How disappointing, I thought that Julia might like the gifts but I guess I was wrong. It feels as if I’ve been rejected even before I have confessed my love.

Then, I felt a soft, warm yet moist feeling on my left cheek. The smell of mint was ever so strong.

“Ju- Ju-“I was stuttering, my face felt hot and my heart was pounding against my chest.

“Don’t worry, I already have a photo of you. You didn’t need to get me a camera for that.” As usual, Julia completely read my mind.

She opened up her diary and at the there it was- my photo!

“I’ve already reserved a spot for you,” Julia said with a smile, “by the way I love the gifts, thank you.”

The storyline of my first draft was taken from an anime but I didn't want to be a copycat, so I re-written my storyline in my second draft and this is my final draft. Long time never write composition and this is a thousand plus words or so. I need to go off to finish my 3DArFun assignment, and I doubt I'd be free anytime soon.
